Top of the Management Hierarchy

November 10th, 2009 by

Human Resources is the role in a company that looks after the people of the organization and has concerns about their development. The HR department will deal with many aspects of the company, such as hiring, firing, compensation, training, benefits and generally dealing with the people side of the business.

HR managers are crucial to a company and are often at the top of the management hierarchy. They are answerable to a lot of the goings on and are relied and depended on vastly.

HR personnel need to be sensitive to all sorts of situations that may arise in the work place, whether it be from a manager to a part time employee. You will need to listen to the situation and needs and act accordingly, putting everything well in to perspective. You need to be able to view things from a sensible, but caring position and must be able to listen to and advise functional managers in to certain situations. You will need to be able to cover all areas and aspects of the business, deciding which solutions will be most effective and how exactly to implement them.
HR is a very exciting role to be in. It attracts people who are team-orientated, extrovert and above all honest. However, there is not room for big egos and people with the need for a lot of attention or those who love to take central stage. They are there to support the company and make visible functions, not cause drama.

HR roles are changing hugely, with the rise and rise of technology, training and outsourcing. It will keep you busy and engaged and you will always be heavily involved in the well being and succession of the company you work in.
